In the early morning while most of their children are still sleeping, Maggie and Jared prepare for the day. Maggie has had a workout and shower while Jared watched little nineteen-month-old Daniel, and took out the trash. It's garbage day.
"Jared, this is the card that Mary spent hours creating for Nana!"
"Oh?"
"Sweetheart, you let Daniel rip it!"
"I wouldn't say I let Daniel rip it. If people want something kept safe, they shouldn't leave it out!"
"...don't externalize responsibility...!!!"
"...harsh...don't blame me...!!!"
"...self-righteous...!!!"
"...!!!"
"...!!!"
At this point, Maggie can't read Jared's expression. Is he thinking of a crude joke he heard at work? Does hate her just a little bit? Then he speaks.
"I love you so much. You're right. Whoever is watching the baby is responsible for making sure he's safe and not destroying things. I shouldn't try to pass the blame on to someone else and I'll try not to do it again. I'm sorry."
Maggie smiles and they hug and exchange gentle words.
Twenty minutes later Jared is working out while Maggie watches the sweetie little pumpkin and starts the bread she's planned for the day.
"Maggie, will you come get Daniel, if he gets too close to the elliptical, he'll get hurt."
"I thought you were going to keep the door shut..."
